iTunes 7.7 is out, iPhone App store launched

Categories: ,

iTunes 7.7 is now available over Apple Software Update. If you have not installed iTunes then download it from here

An extract from its release notes is as stated below
"Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home - a free download from the App Store." Awesome ain't it!!!

Once iTunes is installed, go to Preferences in the Edit menu, click the General tab, then check the box next to Applications. Now click OK.

An Applications item will appear in the left-hand pane of the iTunes window. Click it. Initially, the main pane may appear blank (this is the screen that will show any applications you've downloaded). If so, click the Get More Applications item in the lower right-hand corner to see the full App Store. According to Apple, about 25 percent of the 500 applications available at launch are free.

When you click on an app's icon, you get details about it - its cost, the size of the file, whether it works on both the iPhone or iPod Touch. Some apps may only work on the iPhone 3G, such as those that require true GPS. At the moment, you can download all the apps you like, but until the 2.0 software is available for the older iPhones and the iPod Touch, it won't do you much good. Some of the sample applications are as shown below,

The screenshot of the remote control application is as shown below

iPhone 2.0 software can be downloaded from this page. But be cautious. To install the software after it has downloaded, remove the .zip file extension and hit the option key while asking iTunes to look for iPhone updates. And the software will erase all data on your phone. Apple says they will create a one-time media backup of the data.

A Waterproof Phone from Fujitsu

Categories: , ,

Fujitsu's new F706i waterproof phone is exactly what one needs if you are a water baby and also a mobile freak.
The F706i is a slim clam shell flip phone that weighs in at 137g. It's equipped with a large 2.7-inch display that swivels to landscape style viewing. It features a 1Seg TV tuner. It also has a 2 megapixel camera and support for microSD cards for memory expansion. The handset is also capable of HSDPA connectivity speeds with a full web browser. It also comes with a multimedia player that’s said to read quite a few of the more popular AV formats. But the USP of the phone is that it’s usable up to 6 meters underwater. Hmm... Very Interesting, isn't it?

The little wonder is available in four colors, and features a new LED panel on its front end that provides important information regarding the phones operation (time, lock...) and displays a nice pattern (design figures with 50 different colors), the 2in1 phone option (you can have two telephone numbers on one device), 3G WorldRing (can be used overseas), the DCMXiD (electronic wallet), PC web browser (a real internet browser).

There’s no word on the availability and pricing of the F706i yet so stay tuned Smile 3.

What's new in iPhone 3G?

Categories: , ,

The 3G version of Apple iPhone was officially released on June 10th. You are thinking what's new in this phone. Well let me tell you some of the important updates done to the new iPhone 3G.

From the design point of view, Apple has modified the phone and the phone is lot slimmer than the last model. A new color "White" has also been added to the lineup of the phones, though it is available only in 16GB models and all the other models will now have a glossy black rear casing. The earphone socket has also been adjusted to accommodate normal 3.5mm pins, so that people can simply plug in any headphone of their choice. The back of the phone has also been changed from simple flat back to a tapering back to give it a sleeker look. Nothing much has changed design wise. But one of the missing features is a secondary camera in the front since this is a 3G phone and should support video calling Sad 5

Features wise, iPhone 3G is faster than the previous model, it also has a better battery life which is would approximately 5hrs of talktime. The new iPhone 3G is equipped with an integrated GPS unit along with other location based services to enhance the feature especially with Google Maps and photo Geo-tagging. An option to delete emails in bulk has been provided, a new Contact search has been provided to find names in the address book. Complete support has been provided for viewing Microsoft and also iWork documents. It also has a brand new scientific calculator, but the best part is that it gives a total enterprise support to the business users. It also supports Push email, Push contacts, Push Calendar, Auto-discovery of Exchange servers, Global address lookup, and a Remote Wipe security feature.Celebrating

iPhone 3G also has 'Typepad', a blogging application for the iPhone, through which bloggers can easily upload images and content. iPhone 3G will also have application called "Mobile News Network" through which it is possible for the users to watch news videos as well upload images to the site of Associated Press.

Fresh New games will be available for download at The AppStore at $9.99 per game. The games available for download include Sega's Monkey Ball, 3D Racing etc. The iPhone 2.0 SDK will be available from July, for free(for only iPhone users, iPod Touch will have to pay up $10 for the kit).

But one of the major things, Apple has missed out is Bluetooth Radio that has still not been updated to support an A2DP profile. But that aside, I am curious to know as to when would the iPhone 3G arrive in India and also how much would it cost considering the drop in the pricing of iPhones ($199 for 8GB model and $299 for 16GB model). Hello!!! Airtel/Vodafone people, you listening?

Tata Nano Arrives With A Bang

Categories: , ,

Finally the world's cheapest car has been unveiled. It was unveiled yesterday at 9th Auto Expo held at Pragathi Maidan in Delhi

It has been named as "TATA Nano" and was introduced to the general Public by Mr Ratan Tata, the Chairman of Tata Group after a fabulous presentation about how the idea of the Tata Nano was implemented.

It will be launched in 3 Variants. One is the Basic model price tagged at 1 Lakh (VAT and Local Taxes extra) and the other two will be Deluxe versions with A/C.

Coming to the specifications of the Car, it is a 624CC petrol engine car generating about 33BHP of Power. It will have a 30 Litre Fuel Tank and a 4-Speed Manual gearshift. Power Steering is absent in the car and contains only a single wiper. It will have front disk brakes and rear drum brakes with basic shock absorbers. The mileage is supposedly at 20Km/Ltr and the top speed being 70Km/Hr.

Nano will sport a basic Dashboard which will contain just a speedometer, a fuel gauge and an oil light. RPM counter is missing. No Reclining seats and no Audio System.

Size wise, it is 8% smaller (bumper to bumper) than Maruti 800 but 21% larger than Maruti 800 in its interiors and can seat upto 4 well built persons.

Coming to Safety Issues, the car has passed full frontal and side impact crash tests. The car will also comply with Euro IV norms and Bharat III emission norms.

Ratan Tata, while unveiling the nano, said: "The car will meet all current safety norms and all emission criteria. The pollution it will cause will be lower than 2-wheelers."

Not since the launch of the Maruti 800 in 1983 has any car gripped the imagination of a nation and indeed car manufacturers the world over so intensely. If the car is commercially successful, the Tata Nano can alter the passenger car market in India, and perhaps the world, beyond imagination.
